Regrets – We’ve all had them, some bigger than others. You regret not studying for a test, which you ended up failing. You regret not doing your chores in a timely manner, ending up with privileges taken away. You regret saying something hurtful to ones you care about that you didn’t mean, but unable to take those words back.
Whatever the case may be, you are left with the guilt and burden of “if only” and “what if” floating around in your head, wondering how it would’ve been if you had/hadn’t done something. Regret can make us immobile and our own thoughts can suddenly become our own worst enemy.
However, God doesn’t want us to live like that. We make mistakes – a lot of them! Despite our faults, God will never stop loving us. His love is constant and steadfast; it never wavers or wanes. His forgiveness encompasses all things. Nothing is too terrible or too trivial for God to say “You’re forgiven.” How amazing is that?
We can’t change our past, but we can always strive for a better tomorrow with God’s love and forgiveness on our side. He wants us to keep moving forward, not dwelling on what we did or didn’t do. He doesn’t want us to carry that burden. Jesus did that for you when He died on the cross for you. So don’t weigh down your heart with “what if” and “if only”; let go of the past and forgive yourself. Let God fill your heart with His love and mercy.
